Can we narrow the digital divide in Brighton?

For the Brighton Digital Festival, we’ll be running CityCamp 2.5, a special one-day event focusing on ideas for supporting digital inclusion.

Two speakers will set out the challenge and the opportunity of bringing access to the Internet to everyone in the city. We’ll hear from the council and other public services, people from charities and people who feel they are excluded from the web. Most importantly, you’ll have a day of great conversations with people you don’t normally talk to. At CityCamp 2 more than 80% of people said they spent all or most of the weekend talking to people from other walks of life. (More details will be posted about the programme for the day as we get it confirmed.)

Unlike the other CityCamp events, we won’t end with pitching ideas for prizes, but participants – including local public services – will pitch ideas for pledges of support from public services, voluntary organisations, and members of the public.

The event will be at the Brighthelm Centre  on Monday 17th September and will be from 10-6pm. There will be coffee and tea provided for the day but no lunch. Afterwards we will carry on at the 3 Jolly Butchers pub across the road from the Brighthelm and then on for a curry at 8pm (venue tbc.) Please do join us for the evening sessions whether you can come to the day or not.

Although the event runs for the whole day, we realise that this is not convenient for everyone. Please join us for what you can, in the day or in the evening.

Tickets are free but limited and are available from here. There are half day tickets available if you can only make the morning or afternoon sessions.

The Brighthelm Centre has ramped access, lifts and wheelchair accessible toilets.  There are disabled parking spaces in the nearby NCP car park. There is not currently a hearing loop in the room, but can hire one if needed. Please let us know in advance if you have any access requirements that we can assist with to make the day easier for you. There is space to do this on the booking form, or email us.
